I first bought a fly fishing vest from Chuck Fothergill’s shop in Aspen and a cheap fly rod in Crested Butte...1981, my first summer in the valley. I went out jeeping with a friend and just dangled a fly in a high mountain creek and caught tiny trout. That summer there was a “Bunny Bash” at the Ranch at the Roaring Fork where fishing guides in the valley would volunteer to teach women to fly fish and this was organized by the Ferdinand Hayden Chapter of TU. Years later, 1989, I went to another “Bunny Bash” at Ashcroft and met Chuck Fothergill, one of the founders of the local chapter, the eighth chapter in the country, and influential in getting stretches of the Roaring Fork designated “catch and release” only. He encouraged me to join TU and support the conservation and protection of our rivers. I became a life member in 2000.
I served as treasurer for 4 years and am now on the board as the raffle games manager.
